A core of ego and a new system of artificial intelligence
Posted by on Friday August 08, @12:38PM
from the dept.
Abstract
This paper presents a theoretical framework that shows how a core of ego can be established in an artificial intelligence system. The paper starts with an explanation of human needs, values and intentions. A set of symbols is introduced to represent these concepts and describe the principles of human nature. The paper draws a self-need-driven model, and discusses the alternatives of the personality of the intelligent system and its prospective application.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much more information available on this paper and the link is to a for-pay journal.

It was hard to decide if this post should go through or not. What do you guys think? Should posts to for-pay journals be allowed through in the future?

I would say no. Unless you get a cut from the fees they collect as a result.

I would say no also. Unless...you can cut and paste the full body of the text into the post, or host it offsite for free. But then, that would be illegal, no? Unless the paper says you can reproduce it, if citation is made. You (cognews/Pennywise) do such a good job that it's hard to find things to post! I was going to post an article about a new report showing the dominance of women in managerial positions...but then I realised that that isn't really Cognitive science. Keep it up though Cognews...cause it's a great site.

Sorry, me again. Also cognews is for breaking news, right? It looks to me like that story is 4 years old...? I don't mean to be overly pedantic though.

Thanks for the good feedback. I typically grab news from these sites, the first few links in every category are the ones that I've found tend to be the best. Some of those psychology articles (eg - women in managerial positions) are slippery and it's hard to tell if they apply to cognition or not. Psychology Today typically has a few articles like that everyday where it takes a minute or two to decide if people would be interested in them. Btw, I noticed that the article was 4 years old as well, but it seemed interesting enough. I was hoping that something more recent might surface if I let it slide through. Besides, I'm desperate to have someone other than myself post articles. :)

Ah! I hadn't seen that list before. That's great. I had wondered where on Earth you got all your stories from! At last...the secret is out!
