from the sprechen-sie-deutsch dept. According to this article, recent research by Graeme Jackson shows that the more fluent you are in a language, the less thinking it takes to speak it. More over, the brain uses the same areas for processing different languages, with the possible exception of pictographic languages like Chinese. The study also dispelled the popular notion that learning a second language utilised a different part of the brain from a native language. In fact all the "phonological languages", which include the four in the study, use the same parts of the brain, which draws on verbal skills, memory, listening and control of the mouth and tongue.
