Snake-arm robots slither forward

[article] Many robots are too bulky and inflexible to perform precise work in hazardous and difficult to reach places, like nuclear reactors. Engineers have turned to a different species of machine known as snake-arm robots, which are lightweight, flexible manipulator arms. They can contort to any desired shape, resembling a spinal column composed of individual vertebrae.
